_Article text from The Spartan Spear Online, December 2, 2011 Issue. Written by Macaela Crowley. Read current and past issues of the Spartan Spear Online here. The Marist community overflowed with life on Friday as over 70 students and faculty came together to give 60 pints of blood. Students are required to be at least 16 years of age and not everyone was able to donate but the drive was successful overall. Seniors Margaret Quartararo, Amy Miller, and Courtney Volta worked closely with Lane Memorial Blood Bank to keep the process organized and running smoothly. Many student’s nerves were on edge at the thought of giving blood but those who went through with it were pleased they could help save lives. “It was uncomfortable but I’m so glad I gave,” said senior Adri Cardani when asked about her first experience donating blood. The semi-annual blood drive celebrates its tenth year this fall. English teacher Bill Ferrari put together the blood drive in response to the tragedy of 9/11. He has been in charge of coordinating the drive every fall and spring since. Marist has been presented with numerous awards from the Lane Memorial Blood Bank for the amount of blood donated each year. According to Ferrari there have been years in which Marist contributed more blood than some small colleges. Smith Named MaxPreps "Player of the Week" 11/22/2011

Happy Halloween from Marist High School! It may be a bit spooky today on campus... we never know who (or what) will show up to attend classes, or check in on us. But it's Halloween and that's part of the fun! So pull out the candy bags and get ready for ghouls, goblins.. and the occasional Imperial trooper to stop by your door tonight! Homecoming 2011: The Class Dance Competition 10/25/2011
An annual Homecoming Week tradition here at Marist High School is called the Class (Decade) Dance. Here's how it works: Each class will work together to choreograph and practice a dance routine representing the styles made famous through 4 decades. Freshman represent the 1950's, sophomores represent the 1960's, juniors represent the 1970's and seniors represent the 1980's. At an assembly held the morning before the Homecoming football game, each class will perform their dance in front of the school and a panel of judges. The winning class will earn points that go toward the Class Cup, a week-long class competition where points are earned from dressing up for each spirit day, and bigger events like the class trivia bowl, class tug-of-war, and class karaoke. In 2011, the seniors reigned supreme winning many events (although the juniors beat them in the Trivia Bowl.) As many parents and families were unable to attend the class dance competition assembly, we are posting each class dance below. Either click on them below to watch them here, or double click on the video to watch on Youtube, and share with family and friends on your social networks.
